Should the pressure release valve on the autoclave be opened or closed when in use? I use a small autoclave ( not the industrial one). When material is inside the autoclave, and it is on, should the pressure valve be open or closed? My autoclave is manual. |

The pressure release valve should be closed if you want to develop a pressure greater than atmospheric pressure. You should also have some sort of automatic pressure relief valve that will limit the pressure to a value that will prevent the autoclave from exploding.
