I'm wondering, for sterilizing a needle or glass items, can you just boil it or steam it? I'm talking about instead of putting it in a autoclave, can you just boil or steam what you need sterilized? I always wondered that. |

The best way to home sterilize needle and glass items is to use a pressure cooker. It doesn't give you quite the pressure an autoclave does, but it works. The autoclave is steam under pressure. So in a pressure cooker fill to one inch. Place a steamer or a raised(above the water) tray/plate that is smaller than the diameter of the cooker so the steam can circulate. Using the directions specific for your pressure cooker, raise to a high pressure 15-20 psi for 30 minutes.
I even do this to my solid gold/SS metal ear rings.
